Looking back at your preliminary task,what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Here is a comparison of my preliminary task cover and my full product cover.

Looking back at my preliminary task and comparing it to my full product i can see that i have learnt an effective way of using space and text.My old cover looks bare and has minimal writing and doesn't even include text on the other side of the model while if you look at my new cover the text is placed strategically around the model.

How do you attract/address your audience

One  main way I address my readers in the magazine is the  "Editors notes' This  is addressed to the readers this is a way to connect with the readers and tell them what work you have put into the issue and kind of talk to them as if you were their freind very informal.it shows them that the magazine is for them the readers.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my media product are males 16 -24 year old who a predominantly of a ABC1 social class.i chose this target audiences as i think the dance genre of music is more mature but young age especially for genres like techno take a certain amount of time to get and enjoy someone of the age of say 12 may not like it as alot of people wont be exposed to these genres.16 is a good age is because people are more mature and can discover new music for them selves and have tastes.between 16 and 24 alot of people in the ABC1 calls will attend university and will be students.it is best suited to young adults who have an interest in new underground dance music as the audience will now start to experience clubs and nights out they will be exposed unconditionally to new types of dance music whether they like it or not the ones that do read OFF Beat.As a male age 17 into this kind of music i am my own prime demographic and people like me for the magazine.this magazine would be more suited to educated ,creative people with some kind of musical background as some things discussed in the magazine will be technical but as someone that reads magazines i know i would like things more simple and easier to understand so that's how OFF Beat would attract a more not so technical audience because in the end these people read to learn and discover.

OFF Beats audience is similar in many ways such as it has more male readers than female also many of the readers of both magazines are young adults from 16-24. Both magazines readers are interested in fashion and contain bits of fashion throughout the magazines.and is a secondary part of the magazine.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? 

My magazine would also be distributed on the internet to read and on an official app as more and more magazine are off digital in current times by doing this OFF Beat can be exposed to more people as more people have phones and laptops than people read magazines.

Evaluation question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups? 

The most popular music artists on my Survey Monkey Questionnaire were the all male because the DJ industries is mainly dominated by males .Because of this the majority of artists who I included in my product were male.

Out of the 4 DJ's the more mainstream DJ's got more votes such as Tiesto and Deadmau5 this helped me decide which type of artists to choose, which are the ones with the least votes as my magazine is about bringing new music to people instead of rehashing artists.

Over half of the people that took the survey were age 12-16,  and a few 17, 18, 19 etc. respondents. This shows that I need to aim the content at people that are older teenagers, and feature subjects that a  older teenager may find intesting.  I will need to  have content that appeals to my age range.

50% of the respondents earned £25-30000 a year on household income ,which points to the most audience being from ABC1 as people that earn the much  normally indicates they have a good job and went to university as people that go to university earn more overall in an average year than people that don't. The average income for a British family with two adults working is £40,000 a year  readership would have, on average, more disposable income than the average population.

Underground Dj's

Here are images of more underground Dj's including Ben UFO, Joy Orbison, Randomer, Sven Vaith, Sidney Charles, Boddika and Loefah. all the images have the same feel to them you cant tell that they are Dj's and i feel like that's the point they all carry a air of mystery about them they could be artists,teachers,directors something creative.unlike mainstream Dj's such as David guetta,deadmua5,Tiesto they do not look to be glorify in these images or exactly good looking but more like normal people that others can relate to the general look of the DJ's are quite nerdy to say.the aesthetic fashion wise of the Dj's clothes are dark,unbranded a mix of smart and casual kind of like they are clever and sophisticated ,many wear glasses making them look smarter as that what people associate with smart people but at the same time don't care,these looks are easily obtainable and cheap for anyone to imitate instead of looking like a walking billboard.From this ,this might inspire more introvert or not so open people to  relate to them.

Clothing/Hairstyle/colour

clothing wast the most important thing when taking the pictures of my model.but it can play a key role in the photos mood and atmosphere.

Black symbolizes death and is the traditional color of mourning in Western cultures. Black clothing is associated with powerful forces in many parts of the world. Bad and good. Witches, the devil, ninjas, cat burglars, Darth Vader, CatWoman, and Batman wear black....and so do priests, nuns, judges, mimes, Mennonites, Bedouins, and monks.

Maybe the common thread is that these people are signaling their seriousness of purpose - or the need to be hard to see - or both.not being seen is a big part of being a Dj for some as it conveys that they don't stand in front of their music but hide behind it.

                                    

Here is an image of my model clothing wise he is wearing a basic hoodie which is associated with teens and younger people and this is good as my magazine is aimed at young adults, also a hoodie shows no wealth it could cost £10 or £300.He also wears glasses which i said represents a smart/clever look.his facial expression looks almost like he is deep in thought and carry's no real emotion just like the other artists i showed,hairstyle is not very flamboyant so not to stand out to much but is clean and smart.everything about this image is minimal from the set to the model this represents minimalism which is what the scene is about not letting the artist get in front of the music.  

My model wore a all black monochrome outfit similar to one i mocked up but obviously didn't want logos everywhere so i made sure they were all basic.no cap was needed as that is unconventionality this magazine shoot clothing wasn't really an issue as only dark clothes were needed.

Masthead:

My masthead follows music magazine conventions taking up about 20% of the cover.it is also stylized with a Decorative Block font which is very contemporary like most Electronic music magazines ,a contemporary font appeals to the audiences as they seen themselves and their music as contemporary.

Skyline:

The skyline challenges conventions as it stands out more than other skylines from other magazines,i like this as it really stands out to someone purchasing the magazine and can clearly see the what the magazine is about and its content,i think the skyline is as important as the masthead as this is the first thing anyone sees on the shelf if it is surrounded by other magazines.

Main Image:

This is the original picture i used for the main image after editing the levels and adding filters and grain to give an old deteriorating picture feel and give some texture.Blue and purple overlays were also added to give a cold shadowy feel.

over the image i drew scribbles around the eyes to conceal his identity to a certain extent  and give the cover image some edge over other covers.

Price and barcode:

Although it is a convention to have the price on the magazine's cover, I decided to not use it, this is because I want to put it on the back instead. I didn't want the price of the magazine on the front as i feel as it distracts my readers from the magazine.My readers are of ABC1 social class and money isn't a problem when coming to buy a magazine because they have disposal income.When it came to the bar code i definitely had to follow conventions becuse it makes it easy for people to scan in the item when paying.

Issue Number and Date:

Its conventional to have the Issue number and Date so i deiced to have them on my front cover,as someone that buys magazines i want to know what issue im buying and when it came out ,say if i'm a collector i want to know if its up to date and thats its not wasting my time.

Colour schemes:

I went for a fairly basic colour scheme with a colour hierarchy as most magazines today have some kind of colour hierarchy to help the person buying the magazine can differentiate the most important things first and it helps thing you want to stand out stand out more.
an off white is used as the main/basic colour 
the second color is a light Plum as it is used for titles for the  more important content on the page,the plum is made up of red and blue which have an occurring role in the magazine so not over saturate the use of the plum

Font:

Types of font that i can use for my masthead and other text -

This is the font i ended up using for my masthead called inversion which i like and feel as if it could be on a music magazine with its contemporary edge which reflects the music within my magazine.the font is a type of block serif and decorative hybrid.

Feature story's:

All my feature story's are short and informative following conventions.Key words in the feature story's are highlighted by the plum text which challenges conventions all the other magazines don't have a feature story highlighting scheme

Plug:

My plug followed conventions of being loud and standing off the page i used a large plum cirlce with off white writing.the placement was perfect on the page after all the feature storys had been place on there was a large gap in the bottom corner which was the perfect place as i did not have to move anything ,normally the plug is top left but that would of overlapped onto my main image.Located directly opposite the main story so i feel like it has alot of importance.I chose free club tickets as it would i feel like my audience would want them the most and it was in the top three things what people would want to win in my survey.

My DPS follows most of the main conventions of a DPS as you can compare mine to three of mixmags and mine has most of the conventions.Some conventions i don't have are a secondary image this was done on purpose as i wanted my main picture to take up a whole page with nothing in its way and i feel the way i have stylized the overlap onto the next page takes up more room while it would look cluttered with another picture.One other thing is that the artists name isn't large or doesn't really stand off the page its just in bold as i think the title of the article uses that space up.
